Did you know that the site was once a swamp where “health huts” were built to isolate the sick in the Middle Ages? That dark past is long gone. The history of this place continues when the land became <g id="gid_2">the property of the Asinari family in the 14th century,</g> then was given to <g id="gid_3">the Visitation order in 1644</g>. The nuns transformed it into a walled private garden.

After the French Revolution, it became national property. The town of Annecy finally bought the land in 1834 and launched a competition to develop it. In 1863, after the annexation of Savoy to France, an English-style landscape garden was <g id="gid_2">designed by Henri Porreaux</g>. This is how Annecy’s park came to be the place we love to stroll today.

A walk through hidden treasures

A stroll through the Gardens of Europe in Annecy is a series of discoveries.
